The Bambu Lab A1 mini is a compact open-frame bed slinger with a 180 mm cube build volume. It is the entry point in Bambu Lab's A1 line. This page lists the maker's specifications and UK prices, shows what changes against the larger A1, and says who it is likely to suit.

What was announced and when

Wikipedia's Bambu Lab article lists the A1 mini release date as 20 September 2023. Tom's Hardware published a review on 13 October 2023 that quoted launch pricing of $299 for the printer and $459 for the combo with AMS lite. Those are historic US launch prices and not current ones.

Compatibility notes from the maker

The store FAQ says the standard AMS is not compatible with the A1 mini, so multi-color printing needs the AMS lite. It also says the printer handles materials that do not need an enclosure, such as PLA, PETG, TPU and support filaments, and advises against ABS, ASA, PC, PA and PET because they need higher bed and chamber temperatures.

How it differs from the A1

On paper the A1 mini matches the A1 on speed, acceleration, hotend temperature and the supported-filament list. The spec tables differ on build volume (180 mm cube against 256 mm cube), maximum bed temperature (80 C against 100 C) and weight (5.5 kg against 8.3 kg). A side-by-side is in Bambu Lab A1 vs A1 mini, and the larger model has its own first look.

Who it suits (opinion from the specs)

This section is opinion based on the published specifications, not on use of the printer.

  • A first printer on a tight budget. At £149 it is the lowest-priced current Bambu Lab printer covered in this series, and the budget picture is set out in how much a 3D printer costs in the UK.
  • Small parts, figures and gadgets. A 180 mm cube suits desk-sized prints. Larger items such as helmets or full-size organizers will not fit.
  • People who want PLA, PETG or TPU only. The 80 C bed and open frame mean engineering plastics are outside the maker's recommendation.

Before buying, the first printer checklist is worth reading, and how to 3D print explains the basic workflow.

Running costs matter as much as the sticker price. The print cost calculator and the guide to 3D printer running costs in the UK cover electricity and filament.

What to test when a unit is available

  • Print speed on a real part against the 500 mm/s headline figure.
  • Noise and desk vibration at normal speeds.
  • AMS lite multi-color reliability and the extra desk space it takes.
  • Bed adhesion on the textured PEI plate with PLA and PETG.
  • Measured power draw for the running-cost calculator.
