Not tested by us. Nozzle Notes has not printed on the Elegoo Centauri Carbon. The figures below come from Elegoo's press releases and its store page, checked on 2026-10-10. Performance statements are Elegoo's claims.

What Elegoo announced

Elegoo announced on February 6, 2025 that Centauri Carbon pre-orders would open on February 17. It described the printer as the company's first CoreXY FDM machine, and set it against its earlier Neptune series. Pre-orders opened as scheduled on February 17, 2025.

Elegoo pitched it as an enclosed, ready-to-print machine for beginners and professionals: no assembly, one-click bed leveling, and a hardened nozzle for abrasive materials such as carbon fiber filaments.

Price

RegionPre-order price at launch (February 17, 2025, excluding shipping)
US$299.99
UK£299.99
Europe329.99 euros

The current picture is different. On 2026-10-10 Elegoo's global store (priced in USD) listed the Centauri Carbon at $438.41 and marked it out of stock. The same store now features a Centauri Carbon 2 Combo at $449.00, also shown as sold out. Check the live listing, and consider whether the newer model is the better comparison.

What is new compared with earlier Elegoo FDM printers

  • CoreXY and an enclosure. Elegoo contrasts the Centauri Carbon with its earlier Neptune series and with open-frame bed slingers in general. See CoreXY vs bed slinger for what that changes.
  • Hardened nozzle and 320 C. This allows abrasive filaments; see hotends and nozzle materials.
  • Automatic setup. Pressure-sensor leveling and vibration and pressure advance compensation are standard.
  • Open source slicer. ElegooSlicer is based on Orca Slicer, and Elegoo's update notice points to a public source code repository for the series.

Elegoo also said in a notice that it was working to optimize multi-color printing for the Centauri series, so do not assume multi-color support from the printer alone. The separate CANVAS add-on appears on Elegoo's store, but we have not checked its details.

Who it suits (opinion from the specs)

This is our reading of the published specs, not experience with the machine.

  • Likely to suit: buyers who want an enclosed CoreXY at a budget price and plan to print ABS, ASA or carbon-fiber filament. It is a reasonable candidate for a first printer; see our enclosed vs open frame guide.
  • Check first: stock and the current price, and whether you would prefer the Centauri Carbon 2.
  • Less suited: anyone who needs a large build volume or proven multi-color printing out of the box.

What we would test

  • Whether 500 mm/s is practical, and how long a standard test model takes at default settings.
  • The first layer and bed leveling consistency over repeated prints.
  • Chamber behavior with PLA when the door is closed.
  • Noise at normal speed, and the quality of the Wi-Fi workflow.
  • Power draw and running cost through the print cost calculator.
